As an editor, Emily works on all scales: from conceptualization to commissioning to fact-checking, copy editing, proofing layouts and uploading text into your custom CMS.
Clients past and present include: TASCHEN, Art Basel, Liste Art Fair Basel, Design Hotels, David Chipperfield Architects – Berlin, Art Week Tokyo, Spike Art Magazine, MONA productions, iwalewabooks and Iwalewahaus (University of Bayreuth, Germany), and SAVVY Contemporary, among others.
She is currently a Commissioning Editor for Art Basel Stories and a Content Strategy Consultant for Liste Art Fair Basel.
Here are a few specific projects:
Liste
Producer and Editor, Liste Discourse
For Liste Discourse, 14 young writers and curators each selected a term that they thought best reflected the present moment in contemporary art. Ahead of Liste Art Fair Basel and Liste Showtime Online 2021, their chosen terms were presented through texts and video clips. Emily produced and edited this entire project for Liste—from the selection of the writers/curators to the production of the videos, editing of the texts, and the project’s digital publication.
Art Basel
Special Project Editor, 50 Year Anniversary
For Art Basel’s 50th anniversary, Emily worked with the in-house digital editor to conceptualize an editorial plan, commission writers, liaise with galleries, artists, curators, etc., edit articles (top-edit to copy edit to headline and subhead creation), and upload them to Art Basel’s custom CMS.
Art Basel
Apple News Editor
Emily learned Apple’s coding language, JSON, to create and monitor Art Basel’s channel on Apple News. She developed the article templates, transferred the backlog of editorial content pre-launch, and worked with Apple’s News team to optimize Art Basel’s visibility. She continues to oversee the transition and optimization of content from Art Basel’s website to Apple News and monitor the analytics and ad revenue.
Apple News is only available on Apple products registered in the US, Canada, UK and Australia.
Spike Art Magazine
Editor
From December 2017 through June 2019, Emily worked with Spike’s in-house team to top-edit, copy edit, and proofread reviews and front of book features during production periods for the quarterly publication. She also copy edited digital articles.
iwalewabooks & Iwalewahaus
Copy Editor and Proofreader
Since 2016, Emily has been working with Iwalewahaus at the University of Bayreuth, Germany, to proofread and copy edit their art history and artist books. When Dr. Katharina Fink and Dr. Nadine Siegert decided to start their own publishing house, iwalewabooks, they brought Emily along as their copy editor and proofreader and entrusted her with developing their style guide.
